smoking is one of my favorite things to do. i fully understand the risks and have seen them first hand as well as anyone. still i enjoy smoking and although i think im gonna quit because they are getting so fucking expensive because our government sees it as an expendable industry i have no qualms whatsoever with smoking. what i do have a problem with is our country and they way people in positions of power over us pick and choose things they condemn. yes cigarettes are not good for you but why the attack on them? three times a day every day people are being pumped full of growth hormones and pesticides in food. where the fuck is the warning on food? why isnt there a surgeon general warning on every bucket of the kfc chicken warning pre adolescent girls they may grow breast years before their bodies intend to because of the growth hormones in their food. how about istead of or in addition to ad campaigns that talk about all the chemicals in cigarettes someone talks about the chemicals in the coloring in coca cola that is petroleum based? or shit why isnt there a carbon monoxide warning on cars like cigarettes? some boxes of cigarettes warn pregnant women that smoking can cause birth defects.. so does the shit in food! all im saying is its fucking bullshit.

The government isn't forcing any ideal or moralization on us with the taxation of tobacco/alcohol. The tobacco industry is one of the biggest lobby groups in America and I guarantee most congress men/women smoke. The U.S. is in a recession. What happens in a recession? The sales of alcohol and tobacco sky rocket. It only makes sense they would raise the taxes on those items. This is nothing new... Its happened before and will continue to happen.
After 9/11 the government started banning pretty much everything you could bring on airplanes cause "it could be used as a weapon." But you could still bring butane lighters on board. Why? because legislators didn't want to loose the convenience to light up a smoke right when they got off the plane instead of having to wait til they got out of the airport.
If the government was really concerned with the morality of smoking they would just make it illegal. They did it to alcohol in the 20's and to marijuana in the 6o's.
Also you were telling me the other day how you think they should legalize weed and tax the hell out of it...
You smoked when you lived in Washington and weren't smokes super expensive there?
None of this affects me at all, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.
i was mostly thinking about the warnings when i worte this. but i agree with what your saying.
